ROUND 2 REVIEW – NPL 3 NSW MEN’S

We were greeted to another weekend of high-octane football with plenty of highlights and talking points as we dissect all the action from around the grounds.

Rydalmere Lions FC – Sydney University SFC 2-0

Rydalmere came out on top 2-0 against Sydney Uni in a fiery affair at Rydalmere Park on Saturday night.

Uni went a man down in the 35th minute after Charlie Day was given his marching orders after he racked up two yellow cards in the space of five minutes

The hosts broke the deadlock shortly after as Matt West turned in Ali Mckie’s cross on 41 minutes.

The Lions doubled their lead in the 50th minute after Scott Tonkin rose highest to head home his second goal of the season.

The hosts also finished the match with 10 men after goalkeeper Charles Samushonga was shown a straight red when he took down a Uni striker who was clear on goal.

Uni could not find a way past the Rydalmere defence and so the match ended 2-0 as the hosts become one of only two teams in this competition to maintain a perfect record after the first two rounds.

The Lions’ next fixture sees them take on the Rams at Lynwood Park while Uni will host Bankstown United on Saturday night.
